Rainbow Jello!

I've wanted to make this for a long time. I'm very amused. Nasty stuff though, most revolting texture. I feel bad for the person I made them for, who got his wisdom teeth out today. I certainly wouldn't want to eat 'em.

Persuasion

It has been at least two years since I've finished a novel, but I just finished Persuasion. It took me a while to get back into reading for pleasure. When you've been skimming material for mental bulleted lists of information in preparation for exams, it's hard to get back into the swing of reading casually. That was fun.

Il Barbiere Di Siviglia

Hilarious! However, I must say, I still think of Bugs Bunny when I hear music from this and Wagner operas.

Ahhh....

I finally got a chance to go to the Asian Market in Provo. They have some awesome stuff for some great prices, and they even sell Bok Choy, which is more than most of the stores around here can brag of! I bought a bottle of excellent Pad Thai sauce for $2. I bought some bean sprouts at another market, but...I didn't get fresh ones...make sure you get fresh ones. So I didn't add them to the sauce, but the sauce was fabulus all on its own. Very cheap lunch. Big fan.

Rigoletto

Ha! Somehow I thought that an opera about a clown was going to be a comedy! Boy was I wrong, but it was beautiful. Cornel MacNeil was superb as Rigoletto. I was heartily amused at the lovely foreshadowing when Gilda describes her having met someone, "fatally handsome" at church....

Die Fledermaus

German comic operas. Almost 'nuf said right now, but I do have to say that Prince Orlofsky is one of my dream roles (it's usually played by a girl). The Prince is loaded, but very disenchanted with the world, bored out of his mind rather, and is very vehement that his guests have a good time. The youtube video has the dialogue in English and the aria in subtitles. I laughed so hard when I first saw it. However, I rediscovered yesterday, while watching Joe Versus the Volcano, that my sense of humor definitely does not conform to that of my peers...I was pretty much the only one laughing. I do love that movie.

La Cenerentola

I can't find pictures of this broadcast! Which is sad, but let me tell you it was amazing. I've never heard coloratura like this before. Bewildering. So much fun though. The opera is the classic story of Cinderella, only with a few twists. For example, it's an evil stepfather, rather than mother, and there is no fairy Godmother, but rather a male angel. I really was fun, a comic opera that the whole family could enjoy. You can listen to half of La Cenerentola's final aria on my playlist, called Non Piu Mesta. My voice teacher wants me to be able to sing this at my audition for the music program...haha uh...we'll see about that...but at least I have six months to learn it, but I've never done coloratura before, and this is like coloratura explosion!

La Rondine at the MET

The great thing about the MET, among all of the great things about the MET, is that not only do they broadcast operas to movie theaters, but they also send some straight to my tv at home (via KUED). This opera was wonderful. Angela Gheorghiu plays Magda, and her real life husband, Roberto Alagna, plays Ruggero her love. That made it especially fun. It is definitely a chick flick opera though, and will leave you wishing that someone would sing to you that way. :) Bravo.

Opera Workshop

I'm going to the Crittenden Opera Workshop! :D
